New general public artwork parts exposed through Columbus Arts Pageant

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther and other city leaders on Friday unveiled 3 new pieces of general public artwork that now enhance the Starling Garage on the Scioto Peninsula.

The Columbus Art Fee selected 3 artists – out of the additional than 80 applicants – who have been tasked with creating community artwork. The intention of the artwork was to visually portray an interpretation of the town although also selling inclusion, optimism and range.

The art parts were being commissioned by the metropolis for $250,000 and the Columbus Art Commission accredited the artworks in February.

  • “Vejigante Godmask” by Adam Hernandez – A celebration of Columbus’ culture and variety and the artist’s very own Puerto Rican heritage, the mural depicts a Godmask influenced by the indigenous meanings of the text Scioto (Wyandot for “deer”) and Olentangy (Delaware for “river of the purple encounter paint”)
  • “Creative Consciousness” by Nick Stull – Depicting features from the two character and science, the mural celebrates the romantic relationship amongst Columbus’ naturalistic historical past and technological advances aimed at preserving the environment.
  • “Scioto Magic” by Lucie Shearer – A surrealist depiction of a lady holding a river symbolizing time, the mural conveys the fluidity of the past, existing and long term, and captures a river’s job as a source of life.

The unveiling took put on the very first working day of the 60th annual Columbus Arts Pageant, an party that capabilities extra than 200 visible artists, performances and dozens of foodstuff suppliers.
