HOMEWOOD, Ala. (WIAT) — The Homewood City Council are entertaining suggestions for 2 further amusement districts in the metropolis, one particular in Edgewood and an additional in West Homewood. But 1 Edgewood company proprietor isn’t satisfied about it.

“If you transform this into an amusement district, you cannot go again,” Chris Collins, proprietor of Homewood Antiques, claimed. She worries an entertainment district would entice bars and dining places to shift to Edgewood, and probably thrust her out of business enterprise.

“Once bars come in, or after the individuality of this space modifications, you cannot get it back again,” she provides.

Homewood Town Council President Alex Wyatt understands the opposition but does not think an leisure district would have anything to do with her organization.

“This isn’t about trying to motivate nearly anything or convey everything new in. What goes there is more afflicted by zoning than it is an ABC license,” Wyatt stated.

Wyatt included that the place of the leisure districts is to permit restaurant patrons to obtain alcoholic beverages and carry the beverage all around outside in the designated region. The metropolis currently permitted a single in Homewood’s downtown spot.

The districts just cannot come to fruition till the Alabama State Legislature considers the proposal through the next normal session. They previously authorised Homewood’s request for a downtown district, and various others in other municipalities.

“This permits them to stroll additional, possibly do a minor window searching, carry an open up beverage during the leisure district. It’s been incredibly productive, and Homewood Police Section has agreed with that assessment as effectively,” Jennifer Andress, a Homewood Town Councilor, included.

Homewood Law enforcement Section supports the plan of enjoyment districts since it doesn’t set them in a rough place implementing the regulation. Currently, if a human being orders a drink from a cafe in Edgewood, they technically can’t sit exterior on the sidewalk with the beverage.

The entertainment district would allow for that, which leaders say is previously being done. Nevertheless, it is concerning to Collins.

“I have a location listed here. I have a record right here,” Collins mentioned. “I have persons that we consider loved ones below. And I will get pushed out.”

The next action is waiting to see if the legislature approves the notion. After that, the council promises to have clear discussions with organization owners and community associates before generating a closing conclusion.
