6 Top Girl-Boss Video Game Characters Portrayed in Hollywood Movies

There have been plenty of Hollywood movies made in the past that were based on video games. The movies have been choc-a-bloc with mind-blowing action scenes, larger-than-life plots, awesome music, and cool action heroes. But what about the heroine? Here are six cool movies that are based on video games and showcase swashbuckling action heroines.

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider

Who can forget Angeline Jolie as the simultaneously hot and cool heroine in action-adventure movie Lara Croft: Tomb Raider? The movie is based on the Tomb Raider video game, which shows Croft in action scenes all around the world. The video game has since had newer versions, which are best enjoyed on Lenovo Gaming Workstation PCs. Lara Croft the movie was a joint production between the US, the UK, Germany, and Japan. Shot beautifully, the movie does a wonderful job of showcasing Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft in a swaggering, stylish avatar.

The King of Fighters

Released in 2010, The King of Fighters is based on the video game with the same name. It stars the fabulous Maggie Q as Mai Shiranui, the undercover CIA agent looking to infiltrate the King of Fighters tournament. While the movie received a mixed response from audiences (was released straight-to-DVD in the United States) and critics alike, there is no doubt that Maggie Q shines as Mai.

Max Payne

A dark action thriller, Max Payne had the gorgeous Mila Kunis playing the role of Mona Sax, a Russian-American assassin looking to exact vengeance for the death of her sister. In real life, the actress had already played and enjoyed the video game before she began the part. The video game shares the same name as the movie and was well-received by gamers and reviewers alike. The movie, on the other hand, did well on screen but didn’t get a lot of love from critics.

DOA: Dead or Alive

America’s sweetheart Jaime Pressly stars as a professional wrestler in the martial arts action movie Dead or Alive, based on the video game with the same name. Consisting of slick fight sequences and skimpily clad bombshells, the otherwise-mediocre movie nonetheless did a good job of showcasing Pressly in an out-and-out action role.

Street Fighter

An unabashed action movie starring action hero Jean-Claude Van Damme, the movie Street Fighter also starred pop-idol Kylie Minogue as Cammy, a deadly assassin slash amnesiac slash MI6 operative. Phew! Both the movie and the game did well, with Minogue standing out in her stylish role.

Resident Evil: Extinction

A horror action movie based on the Capcom video game series, the movie has actress Ali Larter playing the role of Claire Redfield, the leader of the convoy of survivors in Nevada. Larter impressed audiences with her role, and the movie went on to become a commercial success.

In the last few years, many more girls and women have begun enjoying gaming. Hence, new video games are being developed keeping this new demographic in mind. There are sure to be a lot more swashbuckling heroines in video games in the coming years!
